Abstract: The topic of cross-trees and related events is an illustrative example of folklorisation process, quite unanticipated by both local and western folklorists. On the example of cross-tree tradition were may agree that the factors driving the folklorisation process, such as, for example, the ownership of land or forest, may often function independently from active lore bearers.
