Abstract: The Pyramid of the Puerto del Escudo, or the Pyramid of the Italians, stands beside the road from Burgos to Santander (the N-623). Linked to the military ossuaries built in the time of Mussolini in homage to Italian war dead of the First World War, the fascist leader is still present in the Burgos monument, where the remains of hundreds of Italian fighters who fell in the Northern campaign of the summer of 1937 are buried.
