Abstract: For the one-dimensional model system of the halogen-bridged mixed-valence metal complexes (HMMC) optical absorption spectra are calculated by taking into account the transition matrix elements. Particular attention is paid to optical absorption associated with electronic energy levels localized around solitons or polarons. It is shown that the intensity and the line shape of the absorption spectra depend strongly on the strength of the electron-lattice interaction. The obtained results are discussed in connection with the photo-induced midgap a...
