Abstract: Abstract This study explores the significance of academic networking when publishing on special issues. We find that in comparison to the main editors, guest editors publish more often papers that share networking with their authors. We explore several proxies that test whether this strong networking effect indicates favoritism; the number of referees used, the length of the period under review, the positioning of the connected papers in the issue, and the number of citations received after the publication.
