Abstract: The field of photovoltaics has made tremendous strides over the last ten years toward becoming a viable economical power source to meet human needs. The price of photovoltaic modules for terrestrial applications has decreased by more than a factor of 10 over that time period to a level of $5/peak watt (U.S.$) at the manufacturer's dock.
