Abstract: Syrian hamsters, Fischer rats and Beagle dogs inhaled mono-disperse aerosols of PuO2 and were scarificed during the first 16 days after exposure. The microscopic distribution of radiation dose and tissue-at-risk to alpha irradiation around individual particles in lung was studied using autoradiographs of lung tissue sections. The dose distributions in dogs and rats were more diffuse than in hamsters.
